Jesus, I will follow you.

Hello everyone! We’re so glad you’re here and would like to greet all of you personally!

Sarah: I'm just a 20 year old young woman who is proud to call herself a Christ follower and the founder of Jesus, I will follow you. I am ready to go wherever Jesus leads me; whether it be somewhere in my hometown or to the ends of the earth. I know I will be used by God to help those in need. I hope that this is a place of encouragement and nothing else! We are ALL God's children!

Nick: I have a desire to follow God’s will for my life, wherever that may lead. I have faith that He has a purpose for my life, and every day I wish to see that unfold more and more. I hope God uses the words that I write to encourage, inspire, and draw you closer to Him.

Hi Melanie, when you said, “I’ve been struggling a lot with my flesh, i know i want to do right in God’s eyes, yet i do the very opposite,” it reminded me of something that the Apostle Paul wrote in his letter to the Romans. In 7:14-23 Paul writes about the struggle within him in not doing what he knows to be the right thing to do, and that instead he falls into sin. Even Paul, who was used by God in amazing ways in the early church struggled with fighting against this issue of sin and the flesh. We all have a sinful nature and are prone to going against what we know is right in God’s eyes.

Paul then asks this question in verse 24, “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?”

He follows this up with his profound answer in verse 25, “Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!” The answer for any struggle and bondage of sin is Jesus. it’s simply calling upon the name of Jesus as soon as you know the temptation is there.

Temptation will always come; in fact, Jesus even said, “it is necessary that temptations come” (Matthew 18:7 ESV). Without temptation and the decision having to be made between God’s holy, righteous way and our own sinful way, we would not be able to grow.

We can be at peace in knowing that our God is not a cruel God who allows us to be tempted and then punishes us for it, but Jesus himself was tempted. Right after being baptized and identified as the Son of God (not really any spiritual experience that match up to that) Jesus is led into the wilderness by the Spirit where he is tempted by the devil (Matthew 3:13-4:11; Mark 1:9-13; Luke 3:21-4:18). We have to understand that what is a temptation in the hands of the devil, is a test in the hands of God. In all three of the temptations, Jesus responds to the devil with scripture, the very word of God, through the strength of the Spirit. After this Jesus is launched into his ministry and does incredible miracles. His identity is confirmed as he overcomes the temptation from the devil and passes the test from God.

While Jesus was perfect, we definitely are not. But our hope and our help is found in Jesus.

Hebrews 2:18 says,

Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Hebrews 4:15-16 says,

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approachGod’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Rest in knowing that God is merciful and loving. Romans 5:8 says,

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

In 1 Corinthians 10:13 Pauls writes,

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

In addition to calling upon the name of Jesus and finding hope and help in the fact that He too was tempted, we need to daily, continually reflect on our identity in Jesus. Just before Paul is transparent about his own struggle in Romans 6:3-14 he says this,

Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.For we know that our old self was crucified with him(J) so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.

Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead,he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.

11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. 14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.

Just as Jesus died to sin and for sin once and for all, through our faith and Christ dwelling in us, we too have died to sin. The good news of the Gospel is also that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead, giving him the ultimate victory. In the same way, we have a new life because of God’s mercies (which according to Lamentations 3:22-23 are new every morning). We have a freedom that comes through Jesus. It’s a freedom from the bondage of being slaves to sin. Through Jesus we are now free to live lives of righteousness unto God. In order to go forward we must continually look back.

Nothing is more freeing than reflecting on the very source of your salvation. Never forget God’s amazing, vast, abundant love for you. He’s making you new. He’s redeeming you. He’s reconciling you. He’s calling you back to the very purpose he created you for. Don’t let your flesh hold you back from running after that. Live in the freedom and strength that Jesus has provided.

I really encourage you to really take some time to prayerfully read through, study, and meditate on the scriptures that I have provided. Especially read through Romans 5-8 and then once you’ve really spent some time there I would recommend moving on to Romans 12. The more time you spend in the word, the more you will have to use against the enemy when temptation is brought your way. Your Spirit will be strengthened, and you will be drawn closer and closer to God.

Praying for you!

Be Blessed!

Help My Great Friend Brianna Finish College

This is her story…

My name is Brianna Bravo. I’m currently a junior at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida and my journey has been a rough one. Let me tell you a little about me and why my mother and I would be forever grateful for your help…

At the age of thirty-one, my mother was told she couldn’t have any more children. After having two boys, she always dreamed of having a little girl, but knowing that a tumor was found in her uterus, she lost all hope. My mother ran to my grandmother crying because of this terrible news. After seeing the pain that my mother was going through my grandmother said,“Tomasa, don’t worry I feel it in my heart that you will have your little girl someday and that little girl is going to take care of you in the future.” After a couple months my mother went in for a regular check-up on her tumor and because of God’s grace the doctors were surprised by discovering that the tumor was completely gone.

Literally a week later my mother was experiencing very strong abdominal pain and as she rushed to the ER, the doctors announced that she was pregnant. Neither my mom or the doctors understood how this could have been possible but in her heart she knew it was a miracle from God. My mom wanted to wait to find out the baby’s sex until after having the c-section, so after giving birth her doctor jokingly told her “congratulations it’s another boy!” Feeling a bit sad and overwhelmed, my mom again had lost hope for ever having a girl, but the doctor quickly added, “I’m just kidding, it is a girl!” My mom couldn’t believe it! The nurse wrapped me in my pink blanket and placed me in my mother’s arms for the first time. Unfortunately when I was two years old, my parents divorced leaving my two brothers and I to be raised by my mother and grandparents. At the young age of fourteen, I found out that my mother was first diagnosed with bladder cancer… then three years later she was diagnosed again with breast cancer.

One year ago the doctors found cancerous tumors in her spine, and to this day she is still battling stomach cancer. As a young girl I have always wanted to be just like her, such a caring, positive, and joyful person. Growing up she was always both the mother and the father in my life. She made us her first priority in life and still today while fighting for her own. As the twenty-one year old young woman that I am today, I still make my mother the number one priority in my life. Now I can clearly see the truth behind my grandmother’s words because never have I imagined growing up so quickly in the fact that I am the one who is taking care of her as we both walk through this stage in our lives. There is not one night that passes where I don’t pray for her and her health. For the past three years, I’ve been balancing school, my work and my mother’s health in my mind… but still I prefer to put my mother first above anything else.

Oh how there were nights where I begged to God not to take her, or to give me the illness that she has been battling, because no women who has sacrificed so much for her family, deserves to ever go through this. With tears in my eyes, I can say that my mother is my hero and without her, life becomes unimaginable.

Her dream is to move to Florida where I am going to college but this is not possible because of her health. So I have made it my goal to surprise her with a house in this sunny state after graduation where she can be close to me. She has always told me no matter what happens I have to finish school and to promise her that I won’t give up and in return she won’t give up on her Chemotherapy. This is the promise we both made for each other and now I need your help to make my mom’s wish come true. As a junior in college I am required to pay $5,000 each semester to continue my studies. Every donations counts. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and God Bless!
